Houston, TX (October 27, 2009)—Cinema Arts Festival Houston’s special focus on The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada will proceed with screenwriter Guillermo Arriaga and other crew members, but without the previously announced participation of Tommy Lee Jones. Jones will be out-of-state for important post-production work on his new film, The Sunset Limited; he sent his regrets to the Festival and best regards to his colleagues participating in Festival events. Jones was scheduled to join Mexican screenwriter and author Guillermo Arriaga in presenting a screening of their film The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston on Friday, November 13.
The Festival’s tribute series Guillermo Arriaga, Escritor will continue as planned, including the screening of Amores Perros, the film that first brought Arriaga worldwide acclaim, and the showing of his screenplay The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, which Arriaga will introduce and discuss.
In addition, Arriaga will read from his novels and discuss his approaches to writing across media during one of the Festival’s educational panels. The Three Burials will also be the subject of the Festival’s “Setting the Scene” workshop on November 14, featuring crew members, including production designer Merideth Boswell, exploring the production of the Texas-filmed classic.
